For a number of years, the Alliance has sponsored a variety of programs to engage members' residents in creative activities and foster a closer relationship between the state organization and residents. This relationship works to enhance the lives of residents, and generate positive publicity for members. Programs include:

The Creative Writing Program
The annual Creative Writing contest began in 1993.   Member residents submit short stories and poems that are read and scored by three judges in each category who are published writers and poets.  Entries are scored and the top 40-50 entries are published annually in a publication entitled “Reflections: A Collection of Writing and Poetry by Oregon’s Elders.”  The winners are honored at a luncheon, held in February, and excerpts of the winning entries are read by the writer or a chosen professional reader.

Volunteer Recognition Luncheon
The Volunteer of the Year Luncheon, started in 1995, honors residents from participating facilities, who have been selected by his or her peers, as an outstanding volunteer both in the senior housing community and in the surrounding community at large. Honorees are recognized at a luncheon feauring a slide presentation of their work and a display of collages representing them at work. Ageless Art Contest & Exhibit
The Ageless Art contest began in 1986 with the first annual calendar published for the year 1987. The art competition and exhibit, held annually, celebrates the artistic talents of those over 60 years of age. Through a professionally judged contest, the top 12 pieces of art are selected, then photographed and featured in a full-color calendar published each year. Approximately one third of the entries are featured in the annual Art Exhibit. In the past the exhibit has been at the Capitol in Salem, the Portland Art Museum, Willamette View in Portland and currently at the Holy Names Heritage Center in Lake Oswego.
