ALF/RCF Administrator Training: A Multi-Dimensional
Approach
The Alliance is proud to offer this state-approved option for individuals
interested in meeting the state's training requirements for ALF
and RCF administrators. This training program features three
learning opportunities, designed to give you the flexibility
you desire, as well as the information you will need to successfully
operate an ALF or RCF as an entry-level administrator.
The three components are:
- A one-day classroom training featuring Oregon's unique assisted
living and residential care model. You will hear the state's
perspective from Seniors & People with Disabilities staff,
as well as the provider perspective from experienced ALF/RCF administrators.
- A five-day "internship" at an Oregon assisted living
or residential care facility. See for yourself how communities
put the principles and values of our state's community-based care
model into practice. These five days are not required to be consecutive,
and can be accommodated to your schedule and that of your mentor
administrator.
- The Residential Care/Assisted Living Licensure & Entry-Level
Competency Examination* developed by the National Board of Examiners
of Long-Term Care Administrators. By requiring that Alliance
training participants pass this exam, we are "raising the
bar" for entry-level administrators and you will be able
to demonstrate a higher level of knowledge to potential employers.
You can study for the test as your time allows, and schedule the
exam (offered in Portland, Eugene and Boise) when it suits your
schedule**.
Also included in your fee:
- The Residential Care/Assisted Living Administrators Exam Study
Guide and CD-ROM, to help you prepare for the exam and learn the
essentials that ALF/RCF administrators must know in five key areas:
Resident Care Management, Personnel Management, Organizational
Management, Physical Environment Management and Business &
Financial Management.
- A resource manual full of information on Oregon rules that apply
to residential care and assisted living facilities.
The one-day classroom session, which begins the training, is scheduled
quarterly. Please see the Calendar for scheduled sessions.
