St. Elizabeth Care Center has an immediate need for an interim Director of Nursing Services. St. Elizabeth Care Center is a nursing home located in scenic Baker City. The Care Center is attached to, and functions as a department of, St. Elizabeth Health Services, an accredited acute care hospital. Our average daily census is 40 residents. We emphasize high quality care. Expect this assignment to last 3 – 6 months.

The DNS:

• Provides managerial and programmatic direction for the Care Center that includes accountability for planning, directing, and monitoring operational and patient outcomes
• Develops goals, objectives, and programs for the Care Center consistent with those of the entire facility and the organization’s overall strategic plan
• Demonstrates effective interdisciplinary and interfacility collaboration
• Plans efficient and effective utilization of resources
• Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation agency standards
• Develops, implements, and monitors department policies and procedures
• Investigates and initiates the resolution of patient and/or physician complaints
• Provides direct patient care in assigned departments when needed
• Determines and provides for appropriate levels of staffing based on patient needs and participates in evaluation of staffing effectiveness
• Provides direct and indirect supervision to a variety of nursing staff and support staff in the Care Center
• Provides counseling when needed, and is able to identify and facilitate corrective action as needed, up to and including termination of employees
• Actively involved in recruitment and selection of new employees
• Provides appropriate department representation on a variety of hospital committees
• Communicates information from administration to staff accurately and in a timely manner
• Establishes an effective Performance Improvement program within the department, and encourages involvement of all staff members
• Attends all required meetings
